Salman is very, very keen on me: Asin

Bollywood hottie Asin on her camaraderie with the 2 Khans, her father ruling her personal and professional life and moreThe politically correct Asin Thottumkal, who has always remained tight-lipped about her personal life, in a friendly chat with TOI clears the air about her parents’ interference in her personal and professional life, her selection of films in Bollywood and her alleged romance with Neil Nitin Mukesh. Excerpts from an interview:

After your Bollywood debut people thought that there has been more to you than the typically song-dance roles. Yet you opted for the predictable. l Well, in Bollywood, a filmmaker has to think about casting a heroine like me in a project with a robust script. It’s not a one-man show here. Thus far I FEEL Bollywood films have given me a perfect platform. The stakes are higher in B-Town, so, I can’t afford to attend for subject-oriented roles forever.

So far your two big hits have two Khans -Aamir and Salman – within the lead roles. I don’t mind sharing my success with a perfect star or a whole ensemble cast. I'VE no qualms being a part of a movie that has super stars. Films are commercially viable while you work with a superstar. That’s why I did London Dreams and prepared. If film buffs wish to see the Khans in a movie and the leading lady in a rather less important role then I'VE no problems there.

You’ve worked with Salman Khan twice. How’s your equation with him? There have been rumours that he was recommending you to filmmakers. Salman is very, very keen on me. He's extremely chilled out and a really perfect friend. My comfort level with him is reflected on screen because I understand his sense of humour. He appreciates the truth that I don’t misunderstand him.

You were once very just about Neil Nitin Mukesh who you once termed as a 4 am friend. What went wrong between the 2 of you? I don’t get into any catfights with any of my colleagues. I NEED to maintain a healthy work vibe with them, so I constantly message my women colleagues to maintain in contact with them even after our film has wrapped up. I also share a super rapport with Mithunda to John, Akshay, Ritesh, Johnny Lever. But Neil isn't my friend in any respect. I hardly know him. I’ve met Neil only twice.

Your father is supportive about your career and has a say for your personal life besides. I'M an only child, so not just my father even my mother may be very supportive of my career. However, my father isn't part of script narrations, shootings, promotional tours. He sometimes even doesn't know which movie script I'VE said ‘yes’ to. He doesn't take a decision on my personal decisions. So whoever thinks this has got their facts wrong!
