Selvaa to remake Malamaal Weekly, Neerkumizhi?

Director Selvaa, whose last release Naanga was well received by the audience and critics, is operating on three projects simultaneously. While one might be an original script, the remainder two are reportedly the remakes of the Hindi film Malamaal Weekly and the 60s hit, Neerkumizhi.Selvaa says, “One of the movies that I'LL BE starting work on is an original script, so as to be set in Fiji Island. The solid will comprise newcomers.”

Quiz him concerning the remakes, and he says, “It’s become a trend of varieties to remake old Tamil movies, and that i believe I’m the primary one to initiate it by remaking the 60s film, Naan Avan Illai. I FEEL it’s important to make a choice films that today’s young audience may not have seen, so that you can experience something new, and we will also avoid comparison. I’m eager about remaking K Balachander’s Neerkumizhi with Vivekh within the lead. The original, which had Nagesh within the lead, is a cult classic. My producers are within the strategy of acquiring its rights.”

He adds, “We also are negotiating to get the rights of Priyadarshan’s Hindi hit, Malamaal Weekly. While the unique revolved around middle-aged men, Paresh Rawal and Om Puri, I'M planning to remodel the script to centre it around two youngsters.”
