Her return to the film industry has created a buzz and producers and directors are vying to sign her on around the four south film industries. Now, she’s back on sets after nearly a year shooting for Krish’s Krishnam Vande Jagathguru in Hyderabad. With four films onhand now, Nayanthara seeks to quickly regawithin the numero position in the south she had when she decided to name it quits. In an exclusive tete-a-tete with us, the actress opens up about love, her break-up with ace choreographer-directorPrabhu Deva and return to films.
Prabhu Deva and also you were heading towards marriage and suddenly everything changed. What happened? It happens. It’s not only my relationship – you are taking any relationship or marriage, break-ups happen. There could be misunderstandings and problems on a day-to-day basis but if it gets to a degree where you can't handle it and it goes beyond saturation point, it becomes very difficult to deal with. People change, things change, situations change – so it may be probably on account of that – I ACTUALLY don’t wish to get into details because it’s quite personal and that i don’t need to speak about it to the entire world. I'VE always kept a dignified silence on whatever was being said and written about me. Now things have changed – when a relationship doesn’t work, it doesn’t work. There could be 100 reasons for it or there may well be no explanation for it. Once I am in a relationship, I give it my 100 per cent. But then if it doesn’t work, you can not help it. You can't move ahead with something which isn’t working.
When you were given into this relationship, did you think that this can happen?Definitely nothing! that you simply do in life, whether it’s work or a relationship or marriage, you get into it with a large number of positivity. But I don’t know whether it’s destiny or whatever it just didn’t work. We were not really meant to be together…
During the time you were with Prabhu, there have been a large number of stories written about how there have been problems on account of his ex-wife and that you just didn’t agree with him on certain things. Did that bother you at all?Yes. Like I said, it’s your own space. Simply because you're actors or within the show business doesn’t mean that your private life is on show for everybody else. Whatever we share with one another is private and when any news leaks out, it’s blown out of proportion and made out to be something else. Bad things written about me do bother me and affect me but then I'VE learnt to take it in my stride. I'VE also learnt to maintain quiet about certain things. After I start saying something, it’ll develop into a never-ending story of he said, she said, they said…
Did these rumours affect your relationship with Prabhu? No, it didn't. So long as I with him, my relationship was very strong. Media reports definitely bothered us sometimes.
Then came the heartbreak, how did you deal with it?That’s too personal to get into…a break-up for anyone is probably the most difficult phase of their life. If in case you have to depart from someone you're keen on or vice-versa, regardless of the reason, it really shatters your life. But the way you maintain it's important. I can’t get into how I handled it but I NEED TO if I WOULD LIKE to transport on and live my life.
Three and a half years invested on this relationship, have you ever changed as a person?Yes, I'VE changed so much as an individual. I don’t know whether it’s for the nice or the bad but I'VE definitely changed. (Laughs) It always happens as when you're in a relationship you convert for the opposite person. I FEEL everyone does and I’m no different.
How does it feel to be single again now?I think it’s too early for me to mention anything concerning the single space I'M in at this time. I USED TO BE in a relationship for 3 and a half years so I still wish to recover from it completely. It’ll take a large number of time.
Did you learn anything about yourself on this whole process?I did but don’t question me what. (Laughs)
Has this failed relationship changed your perception of love?I don’t need to touch upon love in any respect presently. That’s my mental status today.
When you made a decision to transport clear of films, you were within the numero uno position within the south. Did you're feeling you it was an overly big step to take?It was a very important step in life but so far as I'M concerned, I'M game for doing anything for romance. I WILL BE ABLE TO do anything for love.
Any regrets all today? No, none at all.
Have you removed the Prabhu tattoo for your hand?I haven’t – it’s still there within the same place. As of now, I'M planning to maintain it.
Were you nervous to go back to the sets after 11 months? How did you feel? The day before the shoot, I did have mixed feelings. I wasn’t tense or worried but I just desired to start shooting. For me, it was a distinct state altogether earlier as I had an absolutely different mindset then. The change from all that and to start out afresh is sort of a completely new beginning for me in life. Whatever weirdness was there the day before the shoot, it disappeared when I faced the camera. I'M all charged up now because that is what I LIKE. I'VE a keenness for acting and that i like to be at the sets and work. I'M happy that i'm doing something that I love.
How do you notice yourself fitting into the film industry today? Is it such as you came back from a brief break?I think so. I don’t think numerous things have changed. I haven’t taken an extended break of 3 or four years, it was just an 11 month break. So there’s no doubt of me having to ‘fit in’ again. I'VE BEEN lucky enough to simply start from where I had stopped. I'VE BEEN a given an overly warm welcome from my friends within the industry. That has given me numerous confidence. After I see the affection that individuals give me, I BELIEVE blessed. My friends were happy then about my relationship and now they're happy that i'm getting back to films.
Any wishlist now that you're back at the silverscreen?I wish to work with people I haven’t worked with to this point. All of the actors and directors we've got today are extremely talented. I WOULD LIKE to work with everyone.
Do we see you heading to Bollywood? No, I'M quite comfortable and comfortable with my south films. I AM GETTING to work in numerous languages and i'm more than pleased with the best way our people treat me. Basically, I'M from here and that i feel more at home in our south industries.
