Title trouble?

Close at the heels of Simbu, who was pressurised to provide a Tamil title to his last-released film Osthe, it's now the turn of Kamal Haasan to stand the wrath of Hindu Makkal Katchi. Some time ago, the song Kannodu Kannai Kalandhal penned and rendered by the Ulaganayagan for his Manmadhan Ambu, was far from the film after the HMK created a ruckus about its explicit sexual references.

Now, his magnum opus Viswaroopam, that's directed by the star himself and is soon to hit the marquee, has run into title trouble.

According to HMK, the self-proclaimed champions of the Tamil cause, Viswaroopam is a Sanskrit word and Kamal Haasan, who has taken Tamil cinema to global levels, must have only Tamil titles for his films.

“When you reside in Tamil Nadu and feature made your name and fame through Tamil films, why would you like to head against the language? Kamal was a job model to thousands of aspiring actors within the industry.

Hence, he should consider our request for changing the name Viswaroopam and keep an original Tamil name, setting an example for others.

We are confident that Kamal will understand our appeal within the proper perspective — after all, we're talking within the interest of upholding the Tamil language,” explains Kannan of HMK. He also revealed that they have got already sent a letter to Kamal concerning the issue.

Sources suggest that because the name Viswaroopam is derived from Sanskrit, it's going to not get entertainment tax waiver from the government.

The film’s promos have already begun in a large way, and it must be seen whether Kamal will go for a reputation change!
