Ace director Shankar has joined the elite club of homeowners of the celebrated Rolls-Royce car, one among the most costly cars. He got his swanky car registered at K.K. Nagar regional transport office (RTO) recently and has also got a unique number (TN09 BQ 0008) by dishing out a couple of more bucks.Though the ‘Ghost’ variant of the Rolls-Royce family, imported from the UK, costs Rs1.25 crore, the director had pay Rs1.75 crore towards customs duty, besides another Rs45 lakh for registration.
On Thursday afternoon, officials of K.K. Nagar RTO had a difficult time keeping at bay the massive crowd that gathered across the swanky car in front of the office. Passersby stopped for a couple of minutes to have a glimpse of the sparkling black Rolls-Royce while kids or even a couple of elderly tried to the touch it. However, they weren't aware that the landlord of the Rs3 crore car who was none rather then ace film director Shankar, who has churned out several hits, including Endhiran.
Sources within the transport department told DC that the auto were registered in Shankar’s name, though he was not present on the time of registration. He's residing in T. Nagar, which comes under Chennai West RTO office (K.K. Nagar).
Besides a couple of industrialists, film personalities, including Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Sanjay Dutt’s wife Manyata are proud owners. However, Bollywood beauty Mallika Sherawat was denied the buy.
Rolls-Royce isn't sold to people who are rich, but only to 1 who has some social standing.
