Surya is understood for his challenging roles. For example in Perazhagan, Pithamagan and Gajini where all he played a job where other artists would quite lose their balance. But for Surya, Maatraan is what the most important role as of now. For the primary time in his experience, Surya is playing the nature of a Conjoined twins. Conjoined twins meaning whose bodies are attached together, they both got to sleep, eat, work and do some other thing together. This can be a role that is hard to behave and shoot and at the other side many actors won't take this role in any respect.

This movie is directed by K.V Anand who already has the history of giving three ( Kana Kanden, Ayan and Ko) hits previously and now that is the second one time he's working with Surya after Ayan. The principle female lead is played by Kajal Agarwal after cosidering several other artists like Sonakshi Sinha,Tapsee Pannu, Anushka Sharma and Samantha Prabhu. The role of Surya’s mother is been played by Thara who played as Karthik’s sister in Agni Natchathiram.

This movie is produced and distributed by AGS Entertainment. This movie is understood to be the leading release of Surya’s till now. And henceforth such a lot of other distributors fought their option to buy the movie but finally the movie was bought for rupees 17 crores by Multi Dimentional Films a few of the Telugu distributors.

Maatraan was shot around the globe including places like Pakistan border, Macedonia, United States, Russia, Serbia, Albania and Croatia. In India it was shot in Hyderabad and Chennai.
