Aanand Rai, who has roped in ‘Kolaveri Di’ actor Dhanush for his next film Raanjhana, says that the film will break the parable that South Indian actors don't taste success in Bollywood. Having cast Dhanush opposite Sonam Kapoor within the film, Tanu Weds Manu fame director says that the National award winning actor will take Bollywood by storm. In an interview to PTI Aanand Rai said, “We have such a lot of girls from down South getting into Hindi films but filmmakers appear to get cold feet in terms of actors. Maybe Raanjhana would break the parable that actors from South aren’t successful in Hindi films. I'VE seen Dhanush’s work down South, he'll take Bollywood by storm.”
After the success of Tanu Weds Manu, apparently there has been pressure on Aanand to rope in a way more saleable name. However the director said, “I don’t understand something. Once we don't have any qualms picking up films from down South for remaking them in Bollywood, why not do the similar with heroes as well?”
Set in Varanasi, Raanjhana is a love story of a center class boy and lady. Known for capturing the authenticity of assorted small towns and cities in Tanu Weds Manu, Aanand is predicted to bring similar flavour in his new film besides. “This could also be going to be a close-to-soil film. Dhanush goes to soften everyone’s heart within the role of this loveable guy from Varanasi. The feminine character too would have a mind of her own despite hailing from a small town. She is street-smart and never a pushover. Beyond that it might be futile to speak because it is simply too early,” said Aanand.
